5 Ways to Show Gratitude During Thanksgiving

Giving thanks

With the year quickly coming to an end, it’s time to celebrate another holiday together with family and friends, and give thanks to everyone that has motivated and helped you throughout 2019. Follow our five tips to help show your gratitude towards your family, friends, and community.

Reflection of the Past Year:

With Thanksgiving just a day away, the time to reflect on everyone and everything you have been grateful for this year is now! Take an hour in the morning, before sitting down with your loved ones to enjoy a stuffed turkey, to reflect on the positive things that have impacted you throughout the past year. On top of that, you should take the time to name a few qualities you gained throughout the year that have made you a better person. Use this time to go for a morning walk and reflect on your past year before joining your loved ones for the rest of the day.

Challenges You Overcame:

Take the day to reflect on any challenges that were presented in your life throughout the year. Maybe some of these challenges were positive and helped you to progress in your profession or your school education. Maybe some of them weren’t so positive but helped you to let go of past mistakes and move on as a better person. It is important to recognize the advantages and pitfalls you faced throughout the year. Whatever challenges you faced this past year can be thought of as a lesson learned as you give thanks and move forward into the next year.

Showing Gratitude to Friends and Family:

Your friends and family have helped you through a lot this year. Show them you’re thankful for all they have done this year by bringing a home-made specialty dish to your Thanksgiving dinner. Make sure they know how appreciative you are for all they do for you and it will be sure to put a smile on their face for the rest of the dinner. If you have loved ones that live far away, don’t forget to reach out to them this holiday season or show your thanks by sending an assorted food basket or flowers. Wherever they are, make sure you let them know just how much they mean to you!

Showing Gratitude towards your Community:

Don’t forget to give back to your community this holiday season. Spend a few hours in the morning or afternoon on Thanksgiving Day to volunteer at a shelter or soup kitchen to give back to your community. You could also volunteer at a senior living community center or show thanks by donating to local charities and fundraisers in your area. This can be a great way to contribute back to your community and help out all the people who live in it by showing your appreciation.

Showing Gratitude for the Environment:

Think of ways you can be more environmentally conscious to end out this year and going forward into the New Year. Plant a tree or pick up any trash you see on the side of the road. There is so much to be thankful for on this Earth and treating the environment with respect by being more eco-friendly is a great way to show your gratitude!
